The rest of us may be merrily preparing to celebrate the new year, but the residents of Aidensfield, as we all know, are in a different time zone from everyone else. Auld Lang Syne is the last thing on their minds in this double bill, which encompasses some bizarre plotlines about anti-war protests, a Swedish stranger, a suspicious coffin and an escaped cobra. Yes, a cobra. On a lighter note, romance is in the Yorkshire air for Rosie (Vanessa Hehir) when the new vet, Fergus (Andrew Langtree), asks her out. But first there's that pesky snake to deal with.

Oh my god. Peggy is definitely back on my christmas card list. She might be mean at times but she does care about David. Getting into that van when she thought the snake was still poisonous, good on her, looking out for David like that. I feel for sorry for David, psychogenic conditions produce real symptoms and can be very frightening. Poor Bernie as well.

Don't like that Fergus, too charming, too slick, definitely hiding something.

Poor Miller, I really feel for him but at least it got sorted in the end. As for Phil, he plays angry and upset the same way, very intense.

I liked the techniques they used in the editing, keeping flashing back to what happened and in black and white. It was very effective. I saw it in another show recently but I can't quite remember what. Might have been Vincent, I was watching my DVD boxset of it last night. Hmm.

Anyway, good job all round on this episode. I thought it was very good. One of the better ones. I liked how they dealt with Vietnam, although Phil didn't seem to really believe what he was saying, don't think he acted that bit very well. Younger was great though.

On to the next episode :D
