Ratatouille (Rat-a-too-ee)
A rat named Remy dreams of becoming a great French chef despite his family's wishes and the obvious problem of being a rat in a decidedly rodent-phobic profession. When fate places Remy in the sewers of Paris, he finds himself ideally situated beneath a restaurant made famous by his culinary hero, Auguste Gusteau.
This animated movie may be written for children, but it's a joy to watch no matter what age you are. The first word that came to mind after watching the movie was: cute. But not only is it cute, I hear it's also surprisingly accurate in portraying French chefs in their restaurant.
I'd have to say that my favorite character is the mean food critic, Anton Ego. His comments are always so cruel, but yet he still has a heart underneath it all when he gives the rat's restaurant a raving review. Here's my favorite scene with Anton:
Anton Ego: You're a bit slow for someone in the fast lane.
Linguini: And...you're thin for someone who likes food!
[crowd gasps]
Anton Ego: I don't like food. I love it. If I don't love it, I don't swallow!
If you haven't seen this Pixar movie yet, I definitely recommend it. After watching, I kind of grew curious in what ratatouille actually tastes like (it's supposed to be a vegetable stew comprised mainly of eggplant, zucchini, peppers, tomatoes, and onions).
