Do you like his character? He seems to me a bit like marmite the sort of character you love or hate (if you hate him however you probably would find you don't watch the show.
So if you like him, why? If you hate him, why?
I love house lol! I think he's brilliant, his bitterness sometimes annoys me but I think that makes him who he is, I love his humour he always has me laughing. His personality seems extreme yet believable :D, I think Hugh acts him marvellously, House truly makes the show what it is IMO I don't think I'd be so hooked if House wasn't House :-p!

Yes, Midnight Sun I really agree with you there. His bitterness does make him who he is. House's humor is fantastic. Yov;e hit the nail on the head about Hugh's acting. He brings something fantastic to the character.

The first time I watched the show, I really disliked him - which like Emma said "if you hate him however you probably would find you don't watch the show." so I didn't watch the show for along time, but just lately have been watching a few episodes and now I love the show! And I'm slowly warming to House, he’s not my favourite character on the show, but I do understand him now... a little.

Psh, I loved him ever since I saw the very first episode. Unfortunately the timing was bad for me so I could only watch every so often, but he's bloody brilliant like you said. I love his sarcasm and smart ass comments. He's the best doctor ever. :)

Oh, I hate him, but he makes me laugh, so why not?
I mean, if I had him in front of me in real life I would most probably kick him already, or stop talking, dunno, I would just go crazy with so much truth, but seeing him in TV I dont mind. :D

After watching a load of House episodes lately I’ve totally changed my opinion on him. I initially didn’t like him at all, then I though he was ok and now I love his character!! - He is completely originally and comes out with some great one lines and some stuff which makes you think "I can’t believe he just said that!" and without a doubt if he was real he would have been sacked long ago. ;)

What does everyone think of his accent?
The first time I watched this show I was really distracted by his 'American' accent I thought it was really bad, but know I’ve been watching it for a while I actually don’t mind it any more - yeah its still bad but you just get use to it.
I still can’t believe that some people actually think its sounds good.
^Nothing against Hugh cause I think he’s a really talented actor.

Well you have o think of all the other times you hear Hugh. Blackadder for example. He's British and maybe he just can't do a good accent. Because ki don't he's ever done something like House before.

To be honest I think considering his thick british accent he does an american accent really well. I don't really take much notice though, I guess I'm just to notice to it :)

Do you think House would still be bitter if he didn't have the pain in his leg and have to rely on popping pills all day and leaning on his cane to get about?
I think there’s one episode where Cameron asks Stacey about House, and she says he was the same before the accident...but I don't know I think an accident like that would probably change you, I reckon I’d be more bitter if I ended up like House, you'd constantly be asking yourself what you did wrong to end up in such a way, or maybe that's just me...I suppose in the end you'd learn to just get on with it otherwise you'll never do anything!
How long was House's accident anyway!? 5 years? (Something Stacey said about the last time they were together was 5 years, ago and he had the accident in the last year of their relationship?)

I think it would take a huge thing to happen to him in order to make him change himself. I don’t think he will ever change though, at least not a permanent change, a huge portion of the people who actually watch the show, do so because of the character of House - and a new happier House would probably not go down well with most fans.
I personally love the character of House but I also think it would be interesting to see him in a better mood for a longer period then he as done in the first 2 seasons. - just to see how it goes, before a permanent change is made.
I’m not sure about the pain thing? I think he will be in some of pain, but with the amount of pills he takes will definitely reduce the amount of pains he’s in.
I would think that an accident like that would probably change you too, I wouldn’t believe he was totally the same as he is now compared to him before, I would guess he probably was a little on the moody/grumpy side, but after the operation she might only remember then, when probably he was at his worst. Now that he’s been this way for a few years he probably just in to a rut and wouldn’t know how to change.
Not 100% sure how long the accident was meant to have taken place?? Defiantly before Cameron/Chase and Foreman worked there, and Stacy has been married since then.
Got Vicodin?

I don't think it's bad at all. I had no idea that Hugh was British until I heard him speaking on my Season one DVDs. It really is quite convincing, especially for a British guy. You try speaking in a convincing British accent for more than five minutes. It's very hard, and Hugh Laurie is very, very good at what he does. Though you make a good arguement, you're wrong! xD In my opinion, which doesn't mean much..

Everything about Greg is HOT! The cane, the pills, the incredible wit.. House is House, as they would say. Though he's a total bitter annoyance, I love him down to the last pair of flashy sneakers. His wit is tottally halarious, adorable, frightening, sexy, amazing.. One of my favorite House-isms is actually quite simple.
Foreman: I thought you said everybody lies.
House: I lied.
And his cane/Vicodin.. My God. It really brings the whole "evil bastard" image togther. And it makes a very good gut-flooding-parasite tool [Hunting] and a very good keeping-Foreman-in-the-elevator tool [Safe]. The Vicodin really makes good for comedic moments, such as this one.
House: Is this an intervetion? It's a little late, since I'm not on drugs anymore. I am however, still hooked on phonics. [Cane and Able]
Dr. McScary rocks!
My socks. Oh.

I think through his thick, British accent, he pulls off the American accent magnificently. I honestly had no idea he was speaking out of his ordinary. He does well with it. I love it.

It might be because he sounds so American and the others sound 'normal' if that makes any sense?

I don't know. I've never noticed it being strange. He's House and that's how House talks. I've never been to the US so I'm not really sure how 'Americans' are meant to talk. I think it's a good accent.

After watching three episodes I have come to a decision already. House is awesome! Holly = loves House!
Despite all of his bad points, of which there are many and each is amusing, he is a great doctor. He is the definition of bitterness and resentment. But still he has compassion, deep down, for his patients. I find him to be very beliveable and real - moreso in fact than many tv characters. Of course, having Hugh Laurie play him makes it perfect. He is such a great actor, the timings and facial expressions are spot on.
I also am totally a fan of the cane and Vicodin use. The fact that he offers it out to patients is so funny!
Who needs bedside manner when you have wit and great humour?

I'm drawn to his intelligence and nastiness - I can't help it. He is handsome, sexy, brilliant and so frickin mean and I couldn't love him more! :D He's like a darker version of another mean doctor I loved namely Dr. Becker (Ted Danson) from now cancelled half hour situation comedy "Becker". Sexy, lean, tall mean machines both of them, lol.

I was shocked to find out Hugh wasn't American. I'd never taken notice of any of his other acting roles for comparison. It weirds me out hearing him speak in his real voice. I'd have never guessed in a million years course I'm not American either I'm Canadian, eh? ;) :D

Every so often we see House at home, playing the piano. Just wondered if anyone knew whether it was actually Hugh playing or not?
...Yes, I like to know weird things!

Well I don't know how true this is, or if I made it up, but I swear I heard he does play the piano, as he is a skilled musician, but I can't be sure if that's a 100% true.

I found this on the net, so I guess I was right about Hugh. (This is more helpful than my last post haha!)
Hugh describes himself as a "frustrated musician," and told an interviewer that it's the one place where he can really lose himself: "I can sit at my piano for what seems like five minutes, but when I look at the clock it's three in the morning." (Daily Mail, Dec. 7, 1996) He told Sue Lawley on Desert Island Discs (May 1996) that he "trifle(s) with piano, guitar, and a few other things;" he has also composed and recorded numerous original songs. These talents are on display in Jeeves and Wooster and A Bit of Fry & Laurie.
Hugh also played keyboards in a soul/R&B band with Lenny Henry and Ben Elton's wife Sophie. (Adrian Edmonson of Young Ones fame was an original member.) Adrian Sington in March 1996 Tatler described the band thus: "So imagine my astonishment when I saw him recently at the Limelight, looking much like Jesus and playing an electronic keyboard, Tim Rice style. Laurie was with Lenny Henry's funky band at the brilliant thrash given by Peter Bennet-Jones....With his aptly-named band Poor White Trash, Lenny had the whole place bouncing..."

I adore the man. And any negativity that with time would get annoying in any character, is usually slapped back into place by the savvy people around him (i.e.- Dr. Cameron, Wilson, Cuddy, and even sometimes patients). That's what I love about the show, it's intelligent enough to call out even it's most intelligent character.

Bitter, no. So smart that he still sees the world as pathetic, yes. He'd be the same old House, just undamaged. I remember watching the ep where we see him pre-op with Stacey and the way he says "I love you", I was like...whaaaat just happened? Because of how vulnerable he was allowing himself to be. I guess I prefer him post-op, only because of the Vicodin & cane. Like Dr. Cuddy...I can't resist the hard wood :P
