Judge John Deed

It's on again

New special two parter. The Beeb kept this quiet. I hope that this isn't going to be the last ones. John and Jo aren't together yet Airing on Tuesday 9th and Thursday 11th of January.

Spoiler:

Both called War Crimes

First episode - Deed is in The Hague hearing a case of a young British soldier who killed eleven Iraqi civilians and is accused of war crimes. Deed's ruling on the case of a BNP councillor has brought him to the attention of Muslim extremists, who dispatch a woman, Fran Pavely, to kill him. When Fran meets Deed he's not at all that she expects, but she's determined to go through with her task.

Second - During the war crimes case in the Hague, Deed learns that the British soldier on trial is being sacrificed as part of the government's overall exit strategy. Deed's dilemma is one possible miscarriage of justice to save the lives of many soldiers.

I can't wait. I love this show. I have most (but sadly not all) of the episodes on tape. I wish the BBC would repeat them more or release more of them on DVD.

Extremely good. It's very political but watchable because of the spin. I mean if you think about it then the Judge is probably a socialist, which I'm not, but it's done in such a way that the government seem so corrupted and greedy (which they probably are) and the Judge never does it in the name of politics but in the name of truth and what's right.

It's a great one hero against the establishment show really. John Deed is flawed though, he has a big weakness for women, although I'm rooting for him to get back together with Jo. I seriously hope that happens before the end of the show for good.

I'd watch it. You have to pay attention throughout the episode, I guess to make sense of it and they do do call back stuff from previous episodes sometimes. It's just a great show. I don't actually watch a lot of British TV, I'm normally far more enthusiastic about American shows but Judge John Deed is something else. I'd recommend it to anybody.

Oh My God. Last night is the first time I managed to watch last weeks episodes and oh my god.

I sent in a review to the BBC website. It had to be 100 words or less. Mine is exactly 100 words and I still have loads more to say.

Spoiler:
War Crimes felt different than previous seasons and the continuity wasn't great. Is John now in the appeal court? That would make sense given his involvement in the BNP appeal but it wasn't explained. Also one minute Private Clark wanted to kill himself out of guilt and the next he believed in his actions, that doesn't make sense.

John belongs in England as a trial judge. He needs to sort things out with Jo. They seem to be mad at each other for the sake of it these days. Still looking forward to next weeks episodes though.

My other comments:

Spoiler:
What's with this suicide bomber thing. We do not have a big problem with terrorism in the UK and I have never heard of them targeting specific judges. I couldn't believe it when that guy hit Joe's car and then tried to blow him up. Also, John managing to talk this woman out of blowing him up was really stupid. Terrorists are dedicated and crazy, they can't be reasoned with and the religious do not have sex. Still, I guess it could happen. Loved Joe's panic alarm though.

The only good thing about this episode really was the reaffirmation that Jo loves John and John loves Jo. She was really worried about him several times and that's always nice to see. Although I didn't like her being mad at him all the time and she shouldn't lie to him. She knows that Lawyers for Justice aren't what she thought they were but she keeps pretending. She shouldn't pretend with him.

Back to the BNP case, Monty Everard was bad but those kind of views are quite prevalent. As for the big anvils raining from the sky. Well, I get it, the Iraq war is bad, illegal, wrong, killing everybody us and them, there should be no us and them. What were they trying to do brainwash me? Sending that idiot prosecutor, I mean seriously people that stupid and stubborn and rude actually are allowed to work at the Hague?

Murray Head (recently of Heartbeat fame) was funny with a French accent. He doesn't have a french accent and he was quite good at it really but I once I worked out where I knew him I struggled to keep a straight face.

Yeah it was a good episode, different but good.
