Introduction
Heartbeat is set in the 1960's in a small village in Yorkshire called Aidensfield. The show surrounds the lives and investigations of Ashfordly police station as well as other people from the village of Aidensfield. The first police bobby was Nick Rowan, there has since been three more; Mike Bradley, Steve Crane and the present bobby Rob Walker. There has also been four sergeants; the original Oscar Blaketon, who nows helps Gina Ward run the Aidensfield Arms, Raymond Craddock, Dennis Merton and the present sergeant George Miller. The medical professional also plays a key role in Heartbeat. There has been four village doctors and two district nurses. Kate Rowan was the first and was married to Nick Rowan, then Tricia Summerbee, Liz Merrick and Helen Trent. Maggie Bolton was the district nurse between Kate Rowan and Tricia Summerbee being the doctors and Carol Cassidy is the current district nurse in the absense of a doctor. In between the major cases Ashfordly Police clear up the get-rich-quick schemes of the resident rogue. There have been three rogues, the original was Claude Greengrass, then Vernon Scripps and currently Peggy Armstrong. David Stockwell is their long suffering sidekick, Bernie Scripps, the local garage owner and funeral parlour owner, tries to help David when he can.
